Why you should support our golf scramble

Sarah Stevens, Digital Marketing Intern
July 23, 2024

With the golf scramble quickly approaching, we wanted to sit down and chat with one of our faithful golf scramble participants to get an inside view on why participating in this scramble is so important. We invited Tommy Dean to come chat with us since he has been an avid participant for over ten years. We wanted to discover Tommy’s draw to KyUMH, his best golf scramble memories, his reasons behind supporting KyUMH, why he thinks this event is special, and why he thinks everyone should participate.

What initially drew you to participate and what brings you back each year?

“My connections with the people that work at the KyUMH, they drew me into be a part of the golf committee and have a role in this event each year. I have continued because it is something I have grown to love and care about a lot.”

What is your best memory from a previous golf scramble?

“That’s a tough one. Every time I go out and golf I have fun. I have won some prizes through which is always fun.”

Why is supporting this organization important to you?

“It is really good work, taking care of children at risk is extremely important to do. It overall is just a really good program to support, which is the main reason I keep continuing to come back to support each year.”

What would you say to someone who is thinking about participating but hasn’t signed up yet?

“It’s a fun day, a good time, and the money is going to a great cause. A lot of people that play aren’t even good golfers. A big part of it is that everyone gets a chance to win a prize because it's not just about being good at golf, it’s more than golf. By participating you’re doing a good benefit for Kentucky kids so come out and play to support the Methodist Home!”

What do you enjoy most about the event?

“Getting to play golf for a cause. I've been playing for 40 years. Being able to play for a cause means a lot. The food is also always great as well, better than any other golf scramble I’ve played in so that's a bonus!”
