The Bingo Ladies have become a staple and a tradition at KyUMH. Three times a year, mission driven ladies from Lydia Circle at Christ Church UMC Louisville pack up the most exciting prizes and head to our campus in Nicholasville to enjoy a fun afternoon with our residents. They always play several lively rounds of bingo and make sure each resident has a chance to win. The ladies prepare well in advance by collecting prizes the kids will be thrilled to see on display in our dining hall. Categories include: arts and crafts, snacks, stuffed animals, makeup, comic books, and so much more!

New residents learn about the Bingo Ladies from youth who have had the chance to play for fun prizes with these wonderful volunteers. In between their scheduled visits, the residents ask often when the Bingo Ladies will be returning. These selfless ladies have truly earned the respect of our residents. One resident shared, “It’s like having family members visit. They are so nice to us.”

The Bingo Ladies set a lovely example of kindness for the youth in our care and always meet them where they are by being accepting and patient. They are showing them there are good people in the world who want them to succeed and fill their lives with joy. Sue Strange, who coordinates visits, says, “It’s always so great to visit with the youth and see how they are thriving.”

The impact these visits have on our residents will last a lifetime. The Bingo Ladies understand the value in showing up, sharing laughs, and making the kids feel special. During their last visit one resident was so thrilled to be the first to win that she exclaimed with joy, “This is the happiest day I have ever had!”

Many thanks to our friends from Lydia Circle, The Bingo Ladies!
